| The fact that it is one of the few non-malarial countries in Asia has helped Taiwan to become the biggest exporter of farmed frog in the world, supplying more than 80 percent of the total global demand. With freshness and customer satisfaction guaranteed, the farm-raised frogs of Taiwan are a product of the highest quality, and frog-leg meat processing is conducted under strict HACCP guidelines. Taiwan-cultivated frog legs are exported mainly to the U.S.A. , Japan , Mexico , and Canada .
In 1950, the Taiwan Council of Agriculture recommended the cultivation of the North American bullfrog to local farms and village. The Taiwan Aquaculture Research Center was assigned the task of developing bullfrog farm culture by providing crucial knowledge and technological assistance. The conditions during the initial stages of frog farming were less than ideal due to a lack of suitable formulated frog feed and water-quality control issues, however the situation began to improve once floating formulated frog feed was developed by a local aquaculture feed factory.
Indeed, the development of formulated frog feed produced a revolution in frog farm culture in Taiwan . This also hastened not only the development of whole frog farm culture, but also reproduction technology. Currently in Taiwan , frogs are cultivated from baby frogs to their mature and market-ready stage. Taiwan is home to the only known single culture for frog legs, from reproduction to marketing.
